ECC ADOPT
Adopting A Feline Friend
All of the cats and kittens available from Empty Cages Collective have been rescued as socialized strays from the streets and our Trap-Neuter-Return projects, or pulled from New York City's Animal Care & Control where they would be killed. Due to limited resources we attempt to help the cats in the most need and who are at the greatest risk of abuse, neglect, or premature death at the hands of humans.
All of our cats and kittens have been, or will be spayed or neutered prior to going to their new homes. They have been vaccinated, treated for parasites, and tested for feline leukemia and FIV. Many of our cats and kittens have been microchipped as well. Adoption requires an approved adoption application and an adoption donation as listed on the application.
As part of our adoption application process, we ask for 3 references, and we will call your references. If you live in a rental property, it is helpful if one of your references is your landlord or you can provide proof of permission to have a companion animal through your written lease or landlord agreement. You can download a copy of our adoption application here 2013_Feline_Adoption_Application.pdf or by contacting us at: adopt@emptycagescollective.org.
Once we receive your completed application, processing will generally take 1 to 5 days. If your application is approved, we will contact you to schedule a drop-off of the cat or kitten at your home. This also serves as our informal "home visit."
Please be aware that placement of cats & kittens is not based on order of receipt of completed application. We are first and foremost trying to best meet the needs of our rescued animals when making decisions regarding their placement.
